The day you were born started out as a very long day. We had to wake up at about 5:15 a.m. I wanted to wash my hair and blow dry it and make sure it looked pretty for when you were born and your first few pictures. I wasn't allowed to have any food or water after midnight, and no water to a 10 month pregnant chick stinks! Your daddy and I drove in silence to St. Joes, we were both so nervous and excited. We got to the hospital, filled out all of our paperwork and then they called me back into the pre-op room. At this point daddy was still out in the waiting room, was given a cell phone and told to wait for them to call me. I went back, changed into my hospital gown and they hooked me up to an IV. This was at about 6:30 a.m, my surgery was supposed to be scheduled for 9:45. Well, 9:45 came and went. It was a very long wait. My doctor was performing another c-section and was running behind. While I waited I was allowed to have a few people come in and see me. Daddy looked like he was going to pass out of throw up from nervousness. I was starting to feel kind of sad that you and I's special time was over. I was so excited to meet you, but the realization that now I had to share you with everyone was sinking in! I loved loved loved being pregnant with you. Finally, at 12:30ish they called and said it was my turn. They wheeled me into the operating room, and Daddy was sent to go and change into his scrubs. They put it in the spinal block and prepared me. Daddy came into the room after what felt like forever, wearing a hospital gown. They weren't able to find scrubs in his size. (he looked pretty silly with a gown and cap). I was afraid they were going to start without him, everything was moving so fast. Up went the curtain and next thing I knew they had started. I was pretty scared laying on the table. I couldn't see or feel anything but it was such a strange feeling knowing that they were working on taking you out of me. Finally the doctor said I was smart to have a c-section because you were a big boy with a big head! Then....I heard you cry. There are no words to describe that moment. The nurses held you up, you were mad and purple and so tiny. They cleaned you up, pronounced you were 8 lbs 10 oz, bundled you up and laid you on my chest. It felt like only seconds before they took you from me again to hand you to your Daddy while they stitched me up. Your Daddy and you went to the recovery room so they could do more checking on you until I could get there. Once I arrived I was able to breastfeed you for the first time and hold you again. I have no clue how long I was there before I was moved to the room and your family could come in. The rest of that day was pretty fuzzy for me with all the medicine from surgery and just the events of the day. We had all sorts of visitors, they gave you your first bath and that's all I can really remember. Boo mommy....but I have lots of pictures!! (there are SO many pictures that it was very hard to pick which were going up)
